The Year of the Power Connection

Dear Dr K

I feel blessed to know someone else who has seen trauma as the stepping stone into a better place.

In 2006 I had a grand mall seizure that pointed to the discovery of a brain tumor. After its succesful removal, I realized what a blessing the whole experience was. This is a poem I wrote shortly after:

In the Place Where a Dark Temple Grew

Leap to it and bounce,
the tree is measuring the rain;
each shake of leaf
becomes a thousand blessings.

The window is open to my heart,
cushioned within this comfort
I walk out into it with my quiet
and stop one blade of grass for just a minute,
stop it from its bejeweled contemplation of day,
then take its meaning,
folded and perfect
and speak of secrets.

And for what give up the right to feel the great mountain?
The sifting of the dirt is within me
and I feel the chasm in my head,
the place where a dark temple grew
is not empty, but filled with light.

The mountain quakes within its solitude
and brings into being a kind of joy
that I didn't have before,
that I knew was there
but thought I'd lost,

oh, glory ... it is found !

Thank you for the connection

The gifts we receive from the trauma, drama and life threatening illness that comes into our lives at unwelcome times become our greatest gifts if we embrace them. You have done very well at not only accepting the situation and then pushing yourself to the limits (and sometimes beyond the limits)... - Lynn Pierce

Hi Dr. K, 2008 was also an emotionally grueling year for me. My partner and I went through amazing personal and professional challenges and I think we came out stronger. The problems are no over but our bond became stronger than ever. I'm looking forward to more of your posts! - Yu Yu

Dr K thanks for sharing and for being so inspirational to me. Life is full of connections that until we stop or are stopped, we do not appreciate. Sometimes you wonder why the lemons until you find the diamond it hides in the soul. The blessing is often in the way we are connected to each other and is only revealed after we stop and listen to our hearts. This has been my year to really understand those connections. Thanks for posting. I look forward to more.

I love, love, LOVE the power of connection and I love what you've shared in your blog. It's so true that it's an important part of our lives and gives meaning to so many aspects of what we experience. It's true that no man (or woman, or child) is an island. We are all on this planet to connect in some way, and blessings are readily discovered when those connections take place! I look forward to what you have to share in 2009 and am thankful to have been among your connections this past year!
You know I love you! - AgapeLady

I'm overwhelmed and deeply touched by all of the incredible stories that
everyone is sharing. The grace with which we respond to these excruciating
experiences (and I'm not saying at every moment - I sure wasn't graceful at
every moment) speaks volumes about who we are and what we're here for.

People have asked me from the time I was even a little coherent, what I thought my "accident" meant. Your kind and generous sharing is giving me much more insight into the answer. You are truly awe-inspiring to me and from the emails I'm getting to so many others as well.

Thank YOU!

Dr. K You Are An Inspiration

Dr. K. Thank you for showing us the way. This year my daughter had a breakdown (she was the one with the "don't-tell-me-I-can't-because-I-don't-understand-the-meaning-of-the-word" woman). It has been rough, but I have told her about your story which has given her real hope. It has been a long year, but she is making progress. I am so thankful for your bravery and wonderful outlook on life. You are an inspiration to so many .... you don't even begin to know of your reach.

So true. When life hits us hard, and it will. We have that uncertainty that comes with it. Through connection we do gain power. My wife of 25 years got that uncertainty in 07 with stage 4 breast cancer. She and I both know the Power of Connection. She still connects with people daily by giving them a bit of hope and certainty.
Dare to be Great!

Dr. K,
The last time someone connected as much, my life changed. He has gone ahead to inspire millions of others and on the 20th I will be in WashingtonDC to see him sworn into office. The closest to that experience is you. There is a power and a sincerity to your blog. I am a miracle too. 6 years ago, I was hope-to-die Heroin addict in the streets of Nairobi in the last straws of living. I had attempted suicide severally but on each occasion, the attempts become feeble. 5 years later am running for political office, setting up half way houses, doing my thesis in finance etc..
you are blessed..
with love
Boniface
